The CDHO recognizes that dental hygienists in Ontario are often challenged by the diversity and number of rules and expectations that apply to the practice of dental hygiene in Ontario. The Jurisprudence Education Module has been designed to assist dental hygienists in understanding and applying these rules and expectations. Dental hygienists are not asked to memorize the information, but to have a general knowledge, know where to find relevant information when needed, and be able to apply this information to situations that arise in practice.
The program has been designed as a module to be completed online using realistic scenarios that dental hygienists could encounter in practice. This module has been designed to review learning that is taught in Ontario dental hygiene programs. The CDHO Registrants’ Handbook should be consulted frequently throughout this module. Please note that not all slides have voice-over.
The College has reviewed all College documents and other legislation relevant to the practice of dental hygiene in Ontario. Areas deemed most important for dental hygienists are included in the module. The module is based on ten content domains:
- Introduction to the Jurisprudence Module
- Dental Hygienists as Regulated Health Professionals
- Confidentiality and Privacy
- Consent to Treatment
- Record keeping
- Conflict of Interest
- Professional Boundaries
- Mandatory Reports
- Working for Yourself and Others
- Responsibilities of the Council
4. Online Examination Instructions
There are 54 multiple choice questions in the final quiz portion of the module. While there are no limits to the number of attempts you take to successfully complete the final quiz, all attempts will be tracked by the College. Keeping this in mind, you are encouraged not to take the final quiz until you are confident that you have spent sufficient time on the module and have had an opportunity to review the documents referenced in each learning section. You will have 90 minutes to complete the quiz and must correctly answer all questions (100%) to successfully complete the quiz.
To access the examination portion of the module (Final Quiz), you will require a user ID and password. Current registrants can use their certificate of registration number and their birth date. New applicants will have to register to access the final quiz. Although there is no fee to take the quiz, the non-refundable $75 initial certificate of application fee is required to be paid at the time of registering for the final quiz.
