ONTARIO LABOUR MOBILITY ACT, 2009

 Bill 175, An Act to enhance labour mobility between Ontario and other Canadian provinces and territories received Royal Assent on December 15, 2009, and is now in force.  This Act facilitates the registration of an applicant who is registered in another Canadian jurisdiction.  If you are applying to register in Ontario and are registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, please forward your contact information to Vivian Ford at vford@cdho.org to request an application package.  For further information, please refer to 'Requirements' under the Registration Tab on this website.

 

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

We are pleased to announce that the public now has the option to receive preventive oral health care directly from a dental hygienist.  For a dental hygienist near you who provides home or residential care, look up an  Independent Practice.

Standards of Practice for Dental Hygiene Educators

On May 29, 2009 the CDHO Council unanimously approved the Standards of Practice for Dental Hygiene Educators. The Standards of Practice for Dental Hygiene Educators articulate a shared vision for dental hygiene educators and identify values, knowledge and skills that dental hygiene students in Ontario can confidently expect from their teachers. These standards are intended to guide the professional judgment and actions of dental hygiene educators and inspire self-reflection and continuous professional development. The Standards of Practice for Dental Hygiene Educators reflect the CDHO mission to regulate the practice of dental hygiene in the interest of the overall health and safety of the public of Ontario.

The Knowledge Network

The CDHO is pleased to announce that the Knowledge Network is now live. The Knowledge Network was launched February 2, 2009  as a resource to assist dental hygienists make point of care decisions faster, easier and with more accuracy for clients who present with medical challenges. Navigating via the Practice Guidelines and Resources tab will  take you to the CDHO Knowledge Network where login information is provided for CDHO registrants and guests.

 

Health System Improvements Act

The amendment to the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991 was proclaimed on September 1, 2007.  Therefore, registrants who have been approved by the CDHO to self-initiate their authorized act of scaling teeth and root planing, including curetting surrounding tissue may do so without an order from a dentist subject to the regulation on contraindications.

If you choose to apply for approval for self-initiation, complete the application form and return to the College with the supporting documentation and application fee.  If you are deemed eligible, in accordance with the Standard of Practice for Self-Initiation, you will receive a self-adhesive seal that is to be attached to your wall certificate.

Self-initiation may only occur once the registrant has received approval from the CDHO.
